Secretary (Baritone)
Roger is another member of the band to come from a long established banding family, he joined the band in 1961 and his son Owen is the 4th generation of his family to play with Royston Town Band. Roger is the steady hand that makes sure our jobs are booked and organised, our players registered and handily also has a people carrier!

Steve
|
Musical Director (Conductor)
Royston Town Band are very pleased to welcome Steve Earley as their new Musical Director. Steve has been involved with brass music for nearly 25 years, having started playing the tuba and trombone at school. A graduate of Manchester University, where he had tuba lessons from Andrew Duncan, Steve has played with a number of Championship Section bands including Regent Brass, Redbridge Brass, Virtuois (GUS) and Raunds Temperance Band. He currently leads the bass section of Milton Keynes Brass and plays with the Leaside Brass Quintet.
As a conductor Steve has worked with many bands, notably East London Brass who gained promotion to the 2nd Section under his direction. The band are very much looking forward to working with Steve

Cornets |

Richard
|
Richard joined the band in April 2007 as our Principal Cornet player. Richard has links with the band from the 1980’s when he conducted the band for several contests and also joined the band on a trip to Germany. Richard is also the Principle Cornet player for Luton Band.

Hollie
|
Hollie, our principle cornet player is a young star - she can often be seen out at jobs playing solos such as Annies Song and Georgia on my mind and has recently earned a place at Junior Guildhall in London.

Giles
|
Giles is a dedicated member of the band and enthusiast for all things brass and rare.
|
|
|
Mel
|
Mel who joined the band only a couple of years ago is another young talent, often to be found giggling with Hollie ;-)
|
|
|
Andy
|
Andy is another member who has had long associations with the band, first playing with us in the mid eighties. Andy can also be seen out with the Opus 17 Big Band and is famous for his jazzy solos!

Flugelhorn |

Terry
|
Infamous for his Christmas vocal solos and a liking for Guinness, Terry heads up the horn section and can be seen on the stage playing solos such as Misty.

Tenor Horns |

Judy
|
Judy our solo horn player has been with the band for a number of years, as well as playing for CSD Brass. Both Judy's daughters have played in the band and she can be seen this summer showcasing her latest solo piece 'Over the rainbow'.

JJ
|
Another versatile member of the band, JJ has turned his hand to percussion, conducting and currently sits in the horn section. Another long term member of the band, JJ has been with Royston since he was knee high to a grasshopper age 14.

Marian
|
Marian has recently downsized from percussion to join the horn section and also plays the piano in other local groups.

Sue
|
Sue and her family joined the band in 2006 and it's great to have them on board, Sue is already an experienced musician and has recently and successfully turned her hand to the baritone.

Euphonium |

Lisa
|
Lisa comes from a long line of bandsmen and first joined the band in 1980 when she was 8 years old. A lady of many talents, Lisa has played pretty much every instrument in the band except bass and tenor horn and is currently our principle euphonium player. Lisa puts a great deal into the band - organising social events, advertising, helping to find extra players for jobs when needed.

Paul
|
Paul joined Royston Town Band in 1991 on tenor horn as part of the junior band and a year later moved up to the main band where he played baritone for 4 years. He was part of the Royston Town Youth Band during its existence in the mid-nineties and in 1996 changed to euphonium. During his time away at university he continued playing with various music groups but was always keen to help out when home for the holidays. Paul is now back with the band full time.

Charmian
|
Charmian is still a relative new girl in brass banding terms having joined the band a mere 10 years ago, again after spending a short period as a part-timer while at university she is now enjoying being a regular fixture at rehearsals.

Katy
|
Katy is another of the band's bright young things having joined when she was only 9 years old. She can be seen playing out this summer with her solo 'To a wild rose'.

James
|
Another of the band's junior members, James has recently been accepted to the junior Royal Collage of Music in London - one to watch for the future!
|
|
|
Graham
|
Graham has had a long and successful association with Royston Town Band as conductor, trombone player, brass repairer and well known and well respected member of the brass banding world. Graham's two daughters both played in the band and having since moved away, still play with other bands on a regular basis.

Basses |

Brian
|
Brian is the longest serving member of Royston Town Band and was also recently made a life president for recognition of 64 years of achievement and dedication to the band - may there be many more Brian!

Christopher
|
Chris and his family joined the band in 2006. Already a musician, he has shown his musical versatility and commitment to the band by turning his hand to B flat bass, cornet and percussion when needed.
|

Andy
|
Andy has been with the band for many years and is a great asset and a great bandsman (ie always game for a laugh and a pint!). It's great to have him back playing with the band more often when work and family commitments allow.

Adult learners |

Corinne
|
As one of our adult learners Corinne has not only turned her hand to the cornet but is a great support to the band as a member of the committee, ace sandwich maker and does a fantastic job looking after the band's youngest supporters!

Gill
|
Gill is not only a great supporter of the band but has recently taken up the cornet in our adult learners band.
